Yanni: New Age Has Come of Age

Filed under Blogging On Music, Yanni

A Yanni concert is one of the best attended events of any modern artist. While not his first major concert, Yanni’s breakthrough commercial success came with the release of his album and video, Yanni Live at the Acropolis, which was filmed on September 25, 1993 at the 2,000-year-old Herodes Atticus Theater in Athens, Greece and released in 1994 as an album and live video. Dolly Parton - Girl Scout At 60!

Dolly Parton, famous for her singing, will now also be remembered as a Girl Scout For Life.

Now, I have to admit, I’m not a fan of Dolly Parton beyond the fact that she’s a classic, yadda, yadda, but I thought it was pretty cool that she was such a role model for young women that they would give her this award. I mean, how many women has the Girl Scouts of America inspired to excellence. My daughter was a scout and she was taught about integrity, getting along with your fellow man/woman and how to help the environment. Not to mention all those great Girl Scout cookies.

So the fact that Dolly has received this honor goes a long way towards raising her already high credibility. She’ll also make a fantastic spokesperson for the Girl Scouts, and I’ll be she was just tickled pink to be honored that way.

Here’s a bit of the press release and you can read more if you like.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. Dolly Parton is a country singer, songwriter, movie star, amusement park owner and philanthropist. Now she’s a Girl Scout, too.

Parton, 60, was named a lifetime member of Girls Scouts of Tanasi Council during a presentation before 1,000 Girl Scouts at her Dollywood theme park Friday evening.

“While I was never a Girl Scout myself when I was a kid, I always wanted to be,” Parton said in a statement. “This great honor lets me live out a dream and to be part of an organization that stands for many of the same values I do and Dollywood does.”

Parton accepted a lifetime membership pin and led the audience in the Girl Scout Promise.
