The Many Lives of Sun Country Airlines
Serving the US, Mexico and the Caribbean, Sun Country Airlines is a small carrier based in St. Paul Minnesota. They are small, they are quaint, but they have a way of winning the most prestigious industry awards each year. This little engine that could has also fought to maintain their status as an airline that offers tremendous value that won’t break the bank if you’re on a budget. For example, Sun Country Airlines has earned a top ten spot in Travel & Leisure for four years straight. But that is not all – Conde Nast Traveler has chosen Sun Country Airlines for top honors for three years in a row. we will give you a tiny look into this airline and how they put the customer first.
Sun Country was purchased in 2002 by investors who restarted regular flights then too. A few of the popular destinations they transported passengers to on these schedules included Orlando Florida, Los Angeles California and Denver Colorado among others. Shortly thereafter even more destinations were added such as Washington DC and New York. Minnesota favored Sun Country Airlines in its home base state. Sun Country has worked extremely hard to improve every aspect of their service to passengers since their return in 2002. Sun Country Airlines announced in early July of 2010 their placement in Travel & Leisure Magazine as a top 10 domestic airlines. This is a big part of the recognition given by Travel & Leisure’s World’s Best Service Award for the year 2010. This means that Sun Country’s hard work is beginning to pay off as a runner for the Travel & Leisure World’s Best Service Award for 2010. This recognition puts Sun Country in the running for the World’s Best Service Award given By Travel & Leisure Magazine. It’s interesting to note that this award is based on surveys taken by actual passengers on various airlines. Only those domestic airline carriers eligible for the pool are included in the surveys. So that makes it especially satisfying for Sun Country.
International flights began in July, 2010 for Sun Country when they announced flights to London and Hawaii. For these new destinations, Sun Country is flying passengers with their twin engine Boeing 737-800. It is not unusual to cross the ocean with aircraft that have twin engines, and Sun Country has done that before so they have experience with it. The very first trip across the Atlantic for Sun Country occurred in June (2010) when they flew from Minneapolis Minnesota to London England. Even though they may seem regional Sun country is not a large operations. Although they are a popular hot spot carrier when it comes to flights to places like the Caribbean Islands or Mexico among others. Sun Country was first operated by people working under Braniff Airlines. This was as a result of Braniff’s demise. Even then their idea was always based on high quality customer service.
